Fairbanksans hit the stores

Published Friday, November 28, 2008

I drove by the big box stores well before 7 a.m. today and couldn't believe how many cars were in the parking lots.

Looks like Fairbanksans hit the stores early. The Wal-Mart and Fred Meyer parking lots were jammed. There were lots of cars in front of Barnes & Noble, which was brightly lit and looked very inviting. I thought about heading over to Sears and Gottschalks, but work beckoned.

The warmth is likely a factor in getting people out to the sales. It's much easier to face the crowds at 15 above zero than 15 below zero. You don't even have to plug in the car. Weird. And it's almost December.
